KEMPER HALL OF FAME

Marilyn “Sergeant Mother” Cochran

Kemper Military School

No other woman since perhaps Susan Kemper (wife of F.T. Kemper) has been as loved, respected and admired by the Kemper Corps of Cadets as has Marilyn Cochran. Marilyn loved the cadets which she and her husband Captain Sam Cochran, taught. Long after his untimely death, Marilyn continued her service to Kemper in various capacities. She was the hostess, the Commandant’s Secretary, and too many other duties to mention here.

In April 1973 a loving Kemper Corps of Cadets presented Marilyn with the title she would keep for the remainder of her service at Kemper, “Sergeant Mother”. A plaque was presented to a tearful Marilyn who could only say repeatedly, “I love these cadets!”
