KEMPER HALL OF FAME

Mrs. Mae Strutz

Mae Strutz was the mother of Robert Strutz who was the 71st Kemper Military School Corps Commander. Robert died in WW II while engaged in combat in Europe. Robert had married his sweetheart, Shirley Philips before leaving for Patton’s Third Army and died on 15 September 1944.

Mae Strutz dedicated her life to serving the cadets which her son, Bob so loved. She became the hostess of Kemper, organized dances, taught dancing lessons, and entertained the cadets and their dates for years afterward. Her largely volunteer services were so well received that she expanded the duties of the hostess to include acting as the receptionist for families during homecoming and Military Ball weekends.

At her insistence a collection of yearbooks was assembled in the hostess lounge which served as a means for her to entertain returning Old Boys who periodically arrived on campus for a visit.
