Captain James B Statler

A native of Springfield, Missouri CPT Statler attended high school there before graduating from Southwest Missouri State University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics. He received a regular army commission through ROTC at SWMS in that same year.

During the first three years of his army career, CPT Statler served as a Nike Ajax and Nike Hercules Air Defense platoon leader. He attended airborne and Ranger schools in 1959. He served with the 10th Artillery group in Munich Germany. He subsequently attended the artillery officers career course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Fort Bliss, Texas. He subsequently deployed for multiple tours of duty in Viet Nam

Statler’s homespun humor, level head, and ability to relate to cadets earned him deep respect and admiration as a role model and a powerful leader. Many cadets often remarked that Statler was the key to shaping Kemper’s high profile and community respect during the Viet Nam war.
